Excerpt Reel
In this score video, I have included brief excerpts of each of the three works I am submitting in my portfolio.
Below, I have provided full score videos of each work, as well as Google Drive links to scores and recordings.
Nostalgia Preserves - Full Orchestra
Imagine that you are very tiny, and below you is a massive jar of fruit preserves. You dive into this jar, and as you begin to sink into its ooey-goodness, you notice glimpses of your past hidden in the bits of crystallized fruit. Each piece of fruit holds a memory from your past, and as you sink further and further into the jam, you view the amalgamation of your history. Finally, as you reach the bottom of the jar, you look up in wonder, witnessing the moments from your life suspended above you.
Daughter of God
DAUGHTER OF GOD is a brand new one-woman chamber opera commissioned by LOAM Music creators, Micah Gleason and Joanne Evans, written by composer-librettist team Christopher Bell and Susan Bywaters, and directed by George Miller.
In DAUGHTER OF GOD we meet Leah, a Christian influencer fighting a decade-long battle with cancer. With her options for further treatment dwindling, she takes advantage of an innovative new technology: uploading her consciousness to an AI model named Thea.
So They’re Not The Original
So They’re Not The Original was written as part of the Sphere’s Project, a collaboration between George Mason University’s Composition Forum and Special Collections Archives (SCRC). After connecting with some of the archives' faculty, I became fascinated with the Archives' representation of “memory fact,” or as I’ve been calling it, a “memory-save-point”. I interviewed two SCRC faculty members and asked them to tell a story of a time they assisted someone navigating an archive with which they had a personal connection. I then asked them to repeat the story twice, each time asking “Can you give me ten percent more detail?”.
As they retold their stories, I was fascinated with how each recalled detail created new narratives, like an em-dash in prose. These responses evolved into strings of stories, stories within stories, all stemming from small added details like “Oh, his shirt was actually blue” or “I remember his name was Mike”.
From those responses, I’ve derived a micro-episodic form that simultaneously communicates multiple narrative lines. These narratives tell the story of someone interacting with their own archive after trying desperately to remember something from their past.
